Originally name Middlebury; Powell is a rapidly growing city in Delaware County. It was first settled in 1801 and referred to as Middlebury until Judge Thomas Powell established the first post office in 1857. Located between Delaware and Worthington, the expanding cities are causing Powell’s population to continue to grow. The city was ranked 18 on CNN Money and Money’s list of 100 Best Places to Live in the United States in 2005.
